Budhia - A Symbol of Everything Wrong with Mother India ?

Consider the following chain of events:
Impoverished woman - impoverished woman has baby - impoverished woman tries to sell baby after a couple of years - strange man stops the sale; semi-adopts the child - strange man starts to "train" the 3 year old - strange man and mother encourage the child to 'run-about' - child 'runs-about' quite a bit - strange man along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) plan a marathon for the less than 4 year old - child runs 65kms - entire towns, villages and cities in the state of Orissa are out to watch the child - temperature during run: VERY HOT - child finishes run - media, country, state, police, mother, coach, CRPF, everyone is very happy - next day the media, country, doctors, NGOs, etc etc say run was a bad idea - mother, coach not happy - state asks NGOs to assess situation - NGO doc says he should not run again - mother says go to hell - some dude threatens to hack the doctors hands - coach threatens to leave the state - the child, Budhia is still living on the streets.
What the hell is wrong with this country? I cannot figure which part of this story is most ridiculous. The crazy mother, the crazy coach, the CRPF which certainly has a lot more important things at hand (and doctors to know better than allow a 4 year old to run a marathon in 40 degrees celcius), the media who were gung-ho about this when all kinds of madness is happening across the country, the people of Orissa who clearly have no other channels of entertainment and nothing else better to do, the state govt of Orissa which is worrying about the stupidity of one family when thousands of impoverished families in Orissa are suffering from..well impoverishment.
Prioritizing is clearly not one of our best attributes.
